Gabby God’s Little Angel by Sheila Walsh, Illustrated by Marina Fedotova

My review version of the book was an Ebook in Epub edition. Gabby is a children’s storybook about a guardian angel, Gabby, assigned to watch over Sophie, a little human girl. The book is based on the verses Psalm 91:9,11 “The Lord is your protection…He has put His angels in charge of you. They will watch over you wherever you go.”

The story of Gabby is a simple sweet way to present the idea of guardian angels to young children, probably between the ages of 2 and 4. Gabby is assigned to Sophie, who seems to be a rambunctious girl, and helps her through a frightening pony ride.

The story is very simple. I read the book to my 6 year old daughter last night before bed and she said it was very relaxing and comforting. The illustrations on my reader were in black and white, but were very beautiful and soothing. I thought the story was overly simple, but it did keep the focus on the Bible verse rather than on the characters in the story. I felt the use of only one example of Gabby protecting Sophie wasn’t enough to show that God’s angels protect children all of the time.  I would recommend this book to parents with very small children as an introduction to God’s protection, but for school aged children the book is too simple.

I am giving this book 3 out of 5 stars – it did focus on a particular scripture and had beautiful illustrations but was very very simple and short.
I received this book for free from Thomas Nelson Publishers as part of their blogger program. I was not required to write a positive review. The opinions I have expressed are my own. I am disclosing this in accordance with the Federal Trade Commissions 16 CFR Part 255.
